I got in touch with No. 1313, who decided she wasn’t too keen on venturing into the darkest pits of Ottawa, so she happily stayed behind. And No. 1313 has confirmed—the Book of Regents has started to heat up again. Another Regent is active in the States and plotting for Padre’s return. She also reminded me about the time No. 6 tried to “read” the Book of Regents and got a vague sense of most of the customers within it. Notably, the Ninth… a customer who waits across a bridge: Miss. Brunt.
What’s interesting is, looking back at what No. 6 was able to read about the customers… we’ve actually served them out of order. “Tenth, a child made of moss and twig.” That was Mrs. Malurcher, and we’ve already taken care of her. The First was clearly Miss. Carleton, but we served her after Mrs. Brown, who was second. Of the five we haven’t served yet, it looks like we still have the Ninth, Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and… the… Seventh? Though… I’m not sure about that. The Seventh was described as “a customer who slips through cracks and crevices.” Miss. Merry did that… but then… who the hell is “a friendly face of merry times, though deep inside, a killer lies”?
Well… I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. Considering Miss. Brunt is one of the Thirteen Regents, we’ll have to serve her eventually. So! Looks like we’re heading to Sleepy Hollow. Unless No. 3 and 7 think our time would be better spent dealing with Miss. 112, M.K., and the London Fogs. I doubt Miss. Brunt will stray too far if we leave her there for now. Then again… I think No. 53 mentioned Miss. Brunt can, under the right conditions, travel to any bridge in New York. And… well… that could be bad. Brooklyn, Manhattan, George Washington, Queensboro, Williamsburg, Hell Gate… we’ve got a lotta bridges.
A formal, and far too restrained,
