The Manager and H.R. both bring up sensible points. Without a doubt, the three of us have a greater destiny than running a Cafe and Diner. There can be no question about that. Even with the fantastic, and sometimes questionable, mythos that surround the Cafe and Diner—our destiny, our purpose, is greater than what we can find in selling coffee. To that end, it may be a waste of our time and efforts to pursue it. Not only are there four more than competent competitors who can handle Umbra, but there is also an operating Cafe on the West Coast.
However, I speak from a place of familiarity with the Coffee Trade. It is good work. And, as H.R. pointed out, it is a wonderful distraction, if nothing else. There is a feeling I cannot shake that we are in a lose-lose situation regarding our purpose as a Triad. If we are to go any further down the path of what our destiny has decided for us, then there will be no turning back. We can either burn out or tunnel down… neither of which sounds good to me. Instead, why not burn the candle at both ends?
If we return to the work we were doing previously—searching for a cure for the Blight—what would we do once we found it? The second we no longer carry the Wicked Flame within us, we have cleared the path for our “true” purpose. A purpose which I cannot say for certain is a “good” one. We need time to learn more. Time to weigh our options. And we could spend that time doing nothing… or we could serve an unambiguously sinister customer a fresh cup of coffee.
I know what I’d rather do.
That’s all.
Big Guy.
