After some seriously painstaking research, a few risky consultations, and a few dubious connections, we’ve finally figured out what the hell Aka and Florida stole from the Devil’s Den. That black disk thing is no ordinary artifact; it’s apparently called “Lucifer’s Scrying Mirror.” Yeah. That Lucifer. I guess, I don’t know, this is going in the Diner. So, uh, Lucy’s Scrying Mirror. Eh, what difference does it really make? The thing is called what it’s called. Rule No. 8.
Now, neither the Manager nor myself have ever heard of this thing before. I mean, I know enough about what each part of the name implies. It’s a scrying mirror, so it can probably be used to show visions of the past, present, and future. It can tap into the deepest, darkest desires of those who gaze into it. A tool for incredible insight… or devastating deception. But, like, scrying mirrors are a dime a dozen. Any chunk of obsidian or polished granite can do the same things. Allegedly. We’re a coffee shop, after all. No… it’s the implication of the owner that is more troubling. Lucifer. Who is a fictional character, naturally, but reminds me a lot of Lucy, a well-known patron of the Cafe and Diner.
Lucy, for those unaware, was a co-founder of the original Cafe and Diner. She was bumping uglies with the Owner and stuff. They got into a big fight or something, and she left him, and then he died, and then she rejoined the Second Cafe because she didn’t actually believe he was dead. Eh, she was kinda right. Anyway, Lucy is Levi’s sister… and Padre, and Mistress, and Fly, and Sara, and Maeve. She’s probably one of the seven most influential people in the coffee trade. Any artifact of any of theirs is powerful… especially in the wrong hands.
