Thanks to the efforts of our New Guy, I believe I can say with some degree of confidence who our last presumed member of the Dark is: Hoffmann. Not only would this explain Umbra’s sudden and aggressive interest in the Mechanism, but it might also explain the Gemini mystery. While Hoffmann is not a well-known customer to us, Hoffmann is at least a known customer. A known customer with a penchant for bringing toys and games to life—historically speaking. Assuming this, Hoffmann is similar to the accounts of Hoffmann elsewhere.
While I am not 100% sure that Hoffmann is working for the Dark, I am also not usually wrong. To that end, we must assume that Hoffmann has joined the Dark bringing the current list to Umbra, Aka, Pleasant, Cannon, Gemini Unseen, Gemini Unheard, an assumed rogue Society member, and Hoffmann. That is if Umbra is still going with the theme of eights. Why wouldn’t he? The Dark’s logo is an eight-pointed start in an eye. Umbra has always been greatly fixated on esoteric concepts and themes, and so to him, the Dark must always be eight members when possible.
As it currently stands, we don’t know much about Hoffmann other than he worked under Gehrels, stole critical information regarding the Mechanism and a weapon known as the “Nutcracker,” and most likely brought Gemini to life. Assuming he is responsible for the creation of Gemini, we can also assume he has some way of animating inanimate toys, games, and fictional characters. I’ve pinned Hoffmann down as an order of Eggs. I know that might seem low, but until we know more, I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving him anything more expensive. Consider it a temporary order until we know more and can confirm my assumption that he is working for the Dark.
Yours with wonders upon wonders,
A plastic spherical psychic
