Well, it seems like the Personality Cult is going to attempt to rescue Joy, and you know what? That seems exactly like the kind of thing the First Cafe would do. Plus, we’re in the same boat as them. While the Third Cafe goes after their stragglers and the Last Cafe looks for Warden, we don’t exactly have that much to do ourselves. Of course, even the six of us probably can’t do this on our own, but I’m positive Ampersand’ll lend a hand. It’s not a First Cafe without them (and Dan).
Still, even the nine of us might have a bit of trouble with this one. Thankfully, we’re not entirely out of luck. Sahir has quite a few “Hail Mary” connections he could call in to make our trip to the Thorn a lot less painful. And Aelan has a veritable army of “little buddies” who could more than handle what we might run into down there. And it’s worth mentioning that Sahir, Aelan, Jenni, Nick, and myself have a hidden ace up our sleeves, the First Cafe itself.
There were two First Cafes, or two locations for them, anyhow. By now, it’s no secret that the First Cafe being in “Long Beach” was a cover. There was the “physical location,” which was on El Modena just outside of Santiago Canyon—however, there was another older location. A nascent Cafe and Diner was built in 1988, four years before the El Modena location was built. None of us have ever been there, but we were each given a key should things go, especially in ’72. The true First Cafe—the Year Zero Cafe—it was built by Shaka himself and notably was anchored to none other than the Black Thorn itself.
