Augurs

GEM01 - No. 1

Augurs are unique entities who are naturally interwoven into the cosmic tapestry of Fate. As such, one does not become an Augur as they are born. In some rare cases, Fate can bestow Augur-like powers to an individual, typically at a high cost. Augurs owe no inherent loyalty to Fate or its schemes. However, most Augurs find themselves either ensuring Fate goes according to plan or warning others of Fate's intentions—depending on how favorable Fate is to the Augur's interests.

It goes without saying that being tied into Fate's cosmic tapestry grants Augurs a level of precognition. Most Augurs are naturally drawn to divination in one form or another. Though not all Augurs are equally imbued with the gift of foresight. Some Augurs can go their whole lives with little more than déjà vu, while others are plagued with vivid prophetic visions or dreams. All living souls are indeed involved in Fate's plans, and it is not uncommon for ordinary people to experience occasional bursts of Augur-like powers, such as déjà vu or the one-off prophetic dream. Though divination is not the only talent of Augurs.

The true mark of an Augur is their inherent ability of Second Sight. Second Sight allows a person to see beyond the veils and boundary lines that obscure the Flipside from the Otherside. This allows Augurs to gain intimate knowledge of how the Otherside and Flipside are connected and where the weak spots between worlds exist. It also allows Augurs to see past illusionary magics such as glamors and can help them spot magic that is out of place or unusual. Most Augurs require a medium to tap into their Second Sight, such as Scrying Orb. Quartz is a popular material for focusing an Augur's First Sight into their Second Sight.

Due to Augurs' natural entanglement in the threads of Fate, the Demon Prince of Sloth, Belphegor, often seeks them out to ensure that they utilize their gifts properly. Though Augurs are prized by all seven Demon Princes and various other entities as well. It is not an uncommon sight to see a Witch-Augur at a Prince's side, feeding them warnings of what is to come and what lies on the other side of the Otherside.
