The House of Ancient Powers

ARIES03 – Capgras

In this Universe, there are a multitude of Elders. They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and types. The fact of the matter is while immortality tends to be a rather singular concept, how one ultimately obtains said immortality can be a very messy process. Roughly, as mentioned elsewhere, there are three categories of Elders, your basic umbrella-term Elders, your Nephilistic Elders, and lastly, your Intercyclical/Extracyclical Elders. I suppose there are also Cold Elders, too—though you could lump them into the Extracyclical category as they are not native to this Universe. The point is, if there are so many different ways a being can "transcend" mortality into immortality, how do Elders actually get along and organize themselves?

Well, for the Nephilisitc Elders, it's pretty straightforward. They have a whole system of hierarchies which is better left to its own Virgo receipt. As for Intercyclical Elders, they typically get grouped by Universe of Origin. And the ones without a Universe of Origin, or those who claim this Universe as their own, we usually just call them Cold. But what about the rest of the Elders? Cold Elders only make up ~1-5% of all known Elders, Angels make up ~10-25%... so what do the remaining ~75% of Elders do? Allow me to introduce you to the House of Ancient Powers.

It is a registry of sorts for Elders created and maintained by the High Seraphim and Keeper of Records, Metatron. In the House of Ancient Powers, there are 30 Seats of Power, which act are "ranks," for lack of a better term. It's not a hard and fast assessment of power, but it is where Metatron considers an Elder to be as far as Power, Danger, Influence, Benevolence, and Malevolence go. Which Seats mean what? Who knows! Well, Metatron, I suppose. And probably only Metatron. You're given your Cryptic Name, Common Name, and a rarely used Title along with your Seat of Power. More often than not, an Elder's Cryptic name correlates to their Seat of Power. Of course, those who hold the 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th Seats of Power aren't, to my knowledge, part of that. At least not in a way that mortals can understand. Registration to the House of Ancient Powers is optional, though Elders who go unregistered often find themselves locked away in the Black… Tide… Er, Well—Black Eden these days. We should probably get around to adding that to the Zodiac Files as well.
