Subject: Business as Usual
I don’t trust the Zulus. Never have. Every move they make is calculated, every piece on their board placed with intent and precision. Katherine Wade was one of their pawns—and that alone keeps me on edge. There’s always a plan with them, always a contingency, and I can’t shake the feeling that Katherine is part of something bigger. Maybe she doesn’t even know it, but the possibility lingers, gnawing at me like black coffee on an empty stomach. A hunger in of itself.
But...
I’ve watched Julia fight for her—unwavering in her belief that Katherine is more than an experiment. She sees the girl beneath the hunger, beneath the layers of the Zulus’ twisted science. I’ve seen Jenny pour herself into countless late nights, desperate to help Katherine gain control over the chaos within her. And after Sarah and Mikey’s tests—largely successful in their own right—I’m starting to believe Katherine is... well, more than whatever the Zulus turned her into. There’s a person in there, fighting to stay at the surface.
Sure, she’s unstable. She’s dangerous. But aren’t we all, in our own ways? Jericho—current owner of the Cafe and Diner—is no less unstable or dangerous than Katherine. No offense, Jericho, of course.
Here’s the deal:
Katherine stays. For now. Until Jenny is certain she’s no longer a danger to herself or anyone else. I’m not making this decision lightly. I’ve run through every scenario, every risk. But I can’t ignore what I’ve seen. She’s trying. And I owe it to this team to trust their instincts as much as I trust my own.
And by stays, I mean she doesn’t have to stay in the basement anymore.
The penthouse is big enough, secure enough. If she wants to come up—to be around people more regularly, to try and feel human again—she can. Maybe that’s all she needs. Isolation breeds monsters. Maybe a sense of community can help her find herself again—fully.
Alternatively... she’s free to go. But let’s be clear—the Zulus will be quick to snatch her back up without our protection. Sahir can try to find her a safe house—maybe out in West Virginia—but if she chooses to leave, there’s only so much we can do for her.
