Alright—we’ve got some fresh comfort food and a few late nights ahead of us. It would seem that Umbra’s failures in bringing about Aplut in a stable form have led to him splitting his workload between Aka and Pleasant. From what we’ve heard from both family and friends alike, it seems like Pleasant is searching for a solution to Umbra’s Aplut problem outside of Florida while Aka and Robbie are looking for help up in Ottawa. I know it’s felt like we’ve been playing a chess match against shadows where every move and every piece has been obscured, but—I think we might finally be getting a decent idea of what the board even looks like.
As New Guy noticed last month, Umbra is obsessed with all things esoteric and mystical, especially numerology. He wants to always have eight members of the Dark, and between cutting down Visayas, getting Stronsay locked back up, and, well, Thyrs just not working out like he planned, he’s been down three members for a while now. Four, if you count Aplut as being incomplete. Though, I’d imagine he’d rather get Aplut up and running before filling in his recent vacancies. Now for why Umbra wants eight members specifically… it’s hard to say. I’m guessing he thinks that his success in finding his missing book comes down to many imperceptible factors, some in his control and many outside of it.
Speaking of numbers… we’ve been back up to four for a while now with the New Guy, but I don’t think it’s enough. Even if Big Guy were to come back, five is still an extremely small Cafe. We need help—that much is certain. Hell, it might even be worth it to copy Umbra and get ourselves up to eight employees. But—where would we even find four more people to join us? In case no one else has noticed, no one wants anything to do with the Dark. If the Agency is being hands-off… it’s not a great sign. Eh… we can sort that out later, I guess. Right now, we need to focus on stopping Umbra from bringing about his coming storm.
