Decodex Society

History

In the shadows of the 16th Century, a clandestine order was forged. The Decodex Society, born from the arcane genius of the occultist John Dee, initially served as a covert bulwark against supernatural forces for the English Crown. Its inception was not just a matter of royal security; it was Dee's gambit to absolve himself from accusations of sorcery, calculating, and treason under Queen Mary's reign. Over time, however, Dee's favor ebbed under the skeptical gaze of James I, leading to the Society's estrangement from royal patronage. In the wake of Dee's mysterious demise, the Society morphed into an enigmatic power, weaving its influence throughout the undercurrents of England. By the dawn of the 19th Century, its tendrils had stretched across the Atlantic, and in the post-WWII era, the Decodex Society's reach spanned all eight continents. Armed with arcane knowledge, clandestine alliances, iron-clad bureaucracy, and cutting-edge technology, the Society has emerged as the near-singular authority on supernatural affairs.

Goal

The Decodex Society is the unseen arbiter between the known and unknown, dedicated to deciphering the endless enigmas of the supernatural. They operate under a cardinal doctrine: Knowledge of the arcane is a sacred trust, a divide that must be upheld between the Enlightened and the Unenlightened. To them, the world of the supernatural is not just a mystery to be unraveled but a potent force that could unravel society if left unchecked. Their mission, then, is twofold: to delve deeper into the mysteries of the Otherside and to contain these forces, ensuring their existence remains a shadowed truth, hidden from the world's unprepared eyes.

Notable Members

Sir Alistair Redwood, the Director-General, helms the Society with a mix of aristocratic elegance and cold, uncaring determinism. Born into a lineage steeped in the Society's legacy, Redwood was destined for his role. Yet, his tenure has not been without controversy; his notably audacious strategies have often blurred the lines between heroism and recklessness, leading to unintended human costs and uneasy alliances with entities once deemed inimical.

Among the Society's other luminaries is Nina Stone, a prodigy in Arcane Studies whose insights have reshaped the Society's understanding of the supernatural time and time again. Elijah Green, the sagacious historian and archivist whose unending knowledge of the past shapes the Society's future. And, of course, Captain Jack Sterling, the Society's intrepid naval commander, humanity's primary guardian against the unfathomable pale terrors that lurk in the deep.
