Alright, so we need a new place. A fresh start. Somewhere that hasn’t been reduced to ash and isn’t soaked in the blood of our loved ones. Since Travis mentioned it, I’ve been looking into potential spots and narrowed it down to a few options:
- Warehouse on Terminal Island. Not technically Long Beach, but close enough. Honestly, I kind of like the idea of moving out of Long Beach, even if just a little bit. A warehouse would be plenty big enough to house all four Cafes combined, and being near the docks means fewer nosy neighbors. Downside? It’s not really a Cafe and Diner. Not zoned for food service, anyway. I know, I know—doesn’t exactly matter for us. But I like to keep up appearances.
- The empty Art Deco diner on Signal Hill. This one’s got charm. It’s been abandoned for a while now, but the bones are good, and it’s got the perfect exterior vibe. Downside? It actually used to be a diner. Space would be limited, and for our purposes, it would need a lot of renovation work. Best guess? We’d be tangled in city permits for at least two years. Minimum.
- Thelma’s in Malibu. Yeah—it’s a nightclub, not a Cafe and/or Diner. And yeah, it was run by one of our competitors. But if you haven’t heard, Thelma’s shut down a few months ago. The building’s just been sitting there, and we could probably buy it from Death’s Door for pretty cheap. Downside? The layout is weird, and we’d have to deal with Death’s Door. And knowing them, they’d find some way to sabotage the space. Not gonna lie—I don’t think I’d ever feel totally comfortable there.
- …Not my favorite idea, but—the Golden Flame Temple in Santa Clarita. Yeah. I mean… it’s abandoned. Has been for years. Julius and Joy should still be able to open it, and we could repurpose the space for the Cafe and Diner. Would get us a bit further out of the city. Downside? It’s the Golden Flame Temple. Moving in there would be like stepping out of the frying pan and into the actual fire.
Just some thoughts. But we should probably start deciding soon.
